Wildlife

“We don’t own the planet Earth, we belong to it. And we must share it with our wildlife.”

~ Steve Irwin

Iconic

Wildlife to me means freedom, limitless opportunity, and also the raw unfiltered struggle that we all face daily. Wildlife in itself is chaotic, what we see as serene and beautiful is underneath a fight for survival and the need to win, everyday. Modern civilized humans are almost disconnected from this truth today, far removed from the struggle of hunting or foraging their own food, sheltered from the constant exposures of weather and storm, or the idea of being hunted by predator daily. To me, that’s what makes nature so radically iconic, its freedom, but also chaos, it just is, you can’t make these pictures, you have to experience them. This is where I get my love of nature photography.

Only the Bold

“Don’t be afraid in nature: one must be bold, at the risk of having been deceived and making mistakes.” ~ Camille Pissarro

We wake daily and pursue life with very little care, fear, or understanding of the world around us. We are consumed greatly by the things we see, touch, and can possess. Wildlife is not one of these things, we shouldn’t seek to own it or control it, we should grow with it, in it, boldly, as a functioning member of the wild world that we live in. We have outgrown our symbiotic relationship with nature and so desperately need to return to it.
